Unable to bind Hue dimmer with hue bulb

My the first post overe here.

I cannot bind Hue Dimmer with Hue bulb.
Ibviously it was working when paiered with Hue hub.

During migration to z2m, both devices have been reset to factory defaults and paired with my Conbee2 run under HA.

I wanted to bind the dimmer with the lamp but:

  1. common pairing procedure involving the disconnecting the bulb from AC doesn’t work
  2. I bound the dimmer with lamp using z2m gui - but still nothing
  3. I’ve read I need to unpair coordinator, but GUI says: nothing to unpair (I holding on on button of dimmer during this procedure)

What am I missing?

Hmm Looked into logs.
Pressing the dimmer button causes some reaction in Livingroom bulb recorded in mqtt. But it doesn’t change bulb state.
Can anyone help plz?

I’m a bit disappointed by lack of activity here. I hoped there will be many active members who use specific devices in conjunction with z2m and in tuen higher probability of getting help comparing to HA forum.

Anyway I performed some experiments and finally I succeeded to pair both the bulb and the dimmer with z2m as well as bind those devices together. Unfortunately it doesn’t answer a question why it didn’t work before. I would feel better if it would be more deterministic.

What I did was:

  1. factory reset of both devices again.
  2. Paired dimmer with bulb. It worked.
  3. Then reset bulb and pair with z2m. It worked but obviously I lost binding with the dimmer.
  4. At this point, for unknown reasons the bulb was still allowing me to bind it with dimmer by holding down the dimmer for long time (in fact I did it by accident just trying to test what will happen). Once bound this way, z2m lost communication with the bulb.
  5. I restarted bulb again, paired with z2m. Then paired dimmer with z2m. Now unexpected things:
    a) at this point dimmer was not shown as bound with Coordinator (usually every device is bound just after pairing , but sometimes it isn’t. I don’t know reasons)
    b) I bound the dimmer with the bulb - it succeeded. It also makes bounding with Coordinator appear in GUI. But in reverse order (see screenshot below).

At the end, I have on/off and dimming working. Don’t know about multi-clicks and scene control - I’m not using those features.
I would however loved to know what happens under the hood, why I wasn’t been able to pair those devices initially. And why it works even with the dimmer is bound with coordinator (which is advised to be unbound)
